Potato Bugs

What do you think a potato bug looks like?

Like this?
woodlouse

Or like this?
filthy motherfucker

My personal belief was that the former is a roly poly and the latter a potato bug, but then I heard that some people think potato bugs are what I thought were roly polies. Actually we are all wrong. The first picture is a woodlouse and the second is a Jerusalem cricket (which are fucking disgusting creatures, by the way). Well, now you know.

That ain’t no cricket! It’s an alien in larva form, wanting to suck out your brains!

The one time I came across one of those buggers in person was when you lived in that perched-on-the-side-of-a-hill apartment in Napa and I was out on the side of the building, apparently playing and digging in the dirt. Amongst my excavations was a big, greasy Jerusalem cricket, and the image of its seemingly slimy ass is still perfectly burnt into my memory, perhaps because that was the only time, out of all of those I spent digging, climbing, and rolling around in wholesome muck, that I ever came across something that repulsed me. Ugh, they’re SO gross.

Potato bugs are isopods (I remember my sister Janice studying this stuff). Were you aware that they come in the BIGASS MUTHAFUCKA variety? Observe:

    That is horrifying.
