Speaking of Love

The Obsession with Romance is one of my stronger pet peeves. Romantic love is both revered higher than any other Earthly wonder and treated with the most disrespect and idiocy. Part of this can be explained by the fact that love makes people stupid and crazy, but the people I blame for The OwR are those who are not yet in love and those who have already fallen out of love. Those in the former category are so desperate to get into love with somebody they’re careless about who they put within proximity to their heart, and those in the latter are so desperate to get <back> to the lovin’ they become inconceivably stubborn and blind.

Maybe I shouldn’t take this so personally, but hey, that’s my thing right? Aside from me being overly sensitive and critical I do have a fairly legit qualm with the perception our society has of romance. You see, it is not a lucky accident that I am, after 7 years, still severely and continually-deepeningly in love with my sweetie. FUCK NO. If either of us had been lazy, starry-eyed stupidheads like most people become when they enter a relationship our love would have dissipated long ago. Several times over, actually. This probably brings to your mind some cliché about the necessity of “working” on relationships. Well, I hate that term, too. Love and relationships should not be viewed as obligations!
